IUI

IUI involves introducing cleaned and capacitated sperm into the uterus, representing one of the assisted reproductive techniques. This procedure enhances the likelihood of interaction between eggs and sperm within the uterine environment, thereby raising the probability of achieving pregnancy.

Candidacy for Insemination:

  • Low sperm count
  • Low sperm motility
  • High number of abnormal sperm
  • Low volume of semen.
  • The presence of lethal sperm secretions in the cervix
  • Lack of cervical mucus
  • Thick cervical mucus (preventing sperm to pass through)
  • Ovulation related problems in women.
  • Vaginismus (involuntary contraction of vaginal organs in a way that makes sexual contact impossible)
  • Infertility with unknown causes

This procedure is conducted without anesthesia. It involves washing the semen in a specific manner to make the sperm fertile. Subsequently, the prepared sperm is transferred into the woman’s uterus through the vagina using a narrow tube. To enhance the chances of pregnancy, ovarian stimulating drugs are administered to increase the release of two or three eggs per cycle.

The sperm sample, obtained through masturbation, is submitted to the laboratory on the scheduled day. After washing and preparation in the laboratory, the sperm is stored until ready for injection. Using a catheter, the sperms are then injected into the uterus.

Post Insemination, hospitalization is unnecessary, and the patient can resume regular activities without absolute rest. A pregnancy test is conducted two weeks after the procedure to determine its success.
