Infertility is characterized as the inability to attain pregnancy following 12 months or longer of consistent unprotected sexual intercourse. Approximately 10 to 15 percent of couples experience infertility, often requiring the utilization of assisted reproductive techniques.
Procedures:
IUI involves introducing cleaned and capacitated sperm into the uterus, representing one of the assisted reproductive techniques. This procedure enhances the likelihood of interaction between eggs and sperm within the uterine environment, thereby raising the probability of achieving pregnancy.
Boasting over 70 dedicated fertility clinics, Iran provides state-of-the-art facilities and resources to assist couples facing infertility challenges in achieving parenthood. IUI stands out as a prevalent fertility treatment in the country, with success rates comparable to the best clinics globally.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a fertilization method in which an egg is united with sperm outside the body, typically in a laboratory setting. This entails overseeing and stimulating a woman’s ovulation, extracting one or more eggs from her ovaries, and allowing fertilization by sperm to occur in a culture medium within a laboratory.
Ovulation induction uses hormonal therapy to stimulate egg development and release, or ovulation.
How does it work?
Patients receive ovulation stimulation drugs following various protocols tailored to their age and condition. These drugs, either singly or in combination, precede the next phase of hormone therapy, which is egg retrieval. Ovulation stimulation causes the ovaries to enlarge and position near the vaginal wall, facilitating egg collection through vaginal puncture. The procedure, conducted under general or local anesthesia, involves ultrasound-guided observations. Using a long needle, the doctor pierces the follicles through the vagina, extracting eggs and follicular fluid. Mature eggs are then collected with a suction pump, monitored via ultrasound observations of the ovarian state on a television screen.
Candidacy for Sperm Donation?
The recommendation for sperm donation arises when the male’s sperm lacks sufficient quantity or quality to fertilize the woman’s egg. This approach is also suitable when semen analysis indicates azoospermia or the absence of sperm in the ejaculate. Generally, the physician advises the sperm donation method in the following conditions:
Conceiving a child may appear challenging for women who have undergone hysterectomies, faced diseases, or encountered structural womb issues preventing fetal implantation. However, thanks to scientific advancements and the utilization of surrogate wombs, many of these couples can now realize their dream of parenthood.
The surrogacy method involves a surrogate mother carrying the couple’s fetus when traditional childbirth methods are not viable. In this process, the mother’s eggs are fertilized with the father’s sperm in a laboratory and implanted into a woman capable of carrying the child. The surrogate carries the fetus in her womb and, upon childbirth, legally hands over the child to the infertile couple as per a predetermined contract. Importantly, the newborn inherits the genetic characteristics of its parents, and the surrogate exerts no influence in this regard.
